Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
Try these fixes before calling a technician
Check the fill hoses
Inspect both hot and cold water fill hoses at the back of the machine. Look for cracks, bulges, or drips at the connections. Hand-tighten the connections and replace rubber hoses older than 5 years with braided stainless steel ones.
Inspect the door boot seal (front-load)
The rubber gasket around the door opening on front-load washers is a common leak point. Check for tears, holes, or foreign objects (like a wire from a bra) that prevent a complete seal. Wipe the seal clean after each use.
Don't overload or over-suds
Overloading causes water to splash over the tub during agitation. Also, using too much detergent (especially non-HE in HE machines) creates excessive suds that can overflow through vents and seals.
Check the drain hose connection
Make sure the drain hose is securely connected to the washer and properly positioned in the standpipe. A loose connection will leak during the drain/spin cycle.
When to Call a Professional
If the leak is coming from underneath the machine (not from hoses or the door), it could be the tub seal, pump gasket, or an internal hose — these require disassembly and professional repair.
