Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
Try these fixes before calling a technician
Check the defrost drain
The most common cause. The defrost drain is usually at the back of the freezer compartment behind a panel. If it's clogged with ice or debris, water backs up and leaks onto the floor. Flush it with warm water using a turkey baster.
Inspect the water supply line
Pull the fridge out and check the water supply line connected to the wall. Look for kinks, cracks, or loose connections. A damaged supply line will drip continuously.
Check the drain pan
The drain pan underneath the fridge catches defrost water, which normally evaporates. If it's cracked or overflowing, water will pool on the floor. Remove and inspect it.
Examine the water filter
A poorly seated water filter or a cracked filter housing can cause leaks. Remove the filter and reseat it firmly. If the housing is cracked, it needs replacement.

If the defrost drain keeps refreezing after clearing it, or if you can't locate the source of the leak, a technician can diagnose whether the issue is the defrost heater, timer, or a more complex sealed system problem.
