Try these fixes before calling a technician
Check the spray arms
Remove the upper and lower spray arms and hold them up to a light. The spray holes get clogged with food particles and mineral deposits. Clear each hole with a toothpick and rinse thoroughly.
Clean the filter and tub
Remove and clean the filter. Then run an empty cycle with a cup of white vinegar on the top rack to dissolve grease and mineral buildup inside the tub and spray system.
Use the right detergent amount
More detergent doesn't mean cleaner dishes. Too much creates a residue film. Use only the amount recommended for your water hardness. Pods work well for most situations.
Load dishes correctly
Don't block the spray arms. Face dirty surfaces toward the center. Don't nest bowls or stack plates touching each other. Make sure the detergent dispenser can open fully without being blocked by dishes.
Run hot water before starting
Run the kitchen faucet until the water is hot before starting the dishwasher. This ensures the first fill cycle starts with hot water instead of cold, which is critical for dissolving detergent and removing grease.
When to Call a Professional
If the spray arms spin freely, the filter is clean, and you're still getting dirty dishes, the wash pump, water inlet valve, or heating element may be failing. These affect water pressure and temperature inside the dishwasher.
